Description

Tortoise shell tray decorated with a peacock (a symbol of beauty and elegance in Asian culture), rectangular shape and convex edges. Made using the maki-e technique, which consists of applying gold or silver powder to a lacquered surface, in this case gold, applied in relief (taka-maki-e), giving it an exceptional shine and finish. The delicate scene, with great detail, is completed with details in a deep blue.
Tortoiseshell has been used in Japan for centuries to create luxury items due to its beauty and durability. During the Meiji period, techniques such as inlay and lacquerwork were perfected, allowing for the creation of more complex and decorative pieces.
